Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David. 

 I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years. 

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

Was going to meet up with the group for Super Fartlek day, but turned off alarm instead of hitting snooze - so I woke up at 5:30 - too late to meet the group.

I decided to run a 10 mile MGP run in the neighborhood and I must say this has been the best that I have run this - still can't see running this for 26 miles but it felt pretty good.  48 degrees helped, too.

1.25 mile warm up then

6:52, 6:56, 6:49, 6:53, 6:55, 6:48, 6:47, 6:42, 6:55, 6:20

1 mile cooldown with 3 x 1 min @ 5k pace.

Great running DH, maybe you needed that rest you got because of the knee problem.

BTW...I'm trying to get some of our blog group together and came up with one idea. I posted it on my Tuesday blog entry. Let me know if you might be interested or have a different suggestion.

Great tempo. Eyeballing it, looks like sub-3 pace average...

I'll be targeting 6:45-6:50 for the first half...let me know if that appeals to you; I could use a running partner!

Joe, sub 3 would be a dream, esp after missing 4 weeks. I will probably start 6:55 to 7:00 and try to save something for the last 6 miles.

Micheal Woo and a few more runners from my group all have legitimate shots at 2:55 - they will probably be running around the pace you want to be at.

Very nice looking run derhammer. After seeing that you held that for 10 miles, you wouldn't know you had a few weeks of downtime.
