Personal:

Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David.

I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years.

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

Spoke to a good running friend who had plantar - she talked me out of another shot.  She had to take 4 months off to kick it, and I am afraid I will just need to stop running for an extended amount of time and let this thing heal up.

This is a bummer. Any progress so far?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for checking in.

Well, I bought a road bike and have been cross training and lots of strength training - it seems to be a little bit better.

I've tried everything out there - not sure what else to do at this point other than continuing what I am doing.

Be careful on that bike...you know what I did to myself! But you're not a klutz!

How are you doing?

DH,

Got me a bike on Saturday. I'd invite you to ride with me but I don't want to take a chance having my bad luck rub off on you.

From derhammer on Wed, Jul 01, 2015 at 08:53:05 from 64.245.52.2

@ Yasir - getting treated twice a week now - slow improvement. I don't wish this injury on anyone.

@ IJR - what happened to your previous bike?

Just get well we need you back as soon as you can.

DH- how's it going? Progress?

Hope the PF is subsiding David, when I had it, it hung around 9 months & I too tried everything. It may be a coincidence, but it finally went away after I started sleeping while wearing Feetures PF sleeves:

Things are progressing slowly - I have been running a mile here and there. Found that cycling - hills especially, just make things worse. So lots of cross training, swimming and even walking. Been getting treated for it - working all the knots and tightness out of my calf. Stretching, exercises - everything I should be doing. It's pretty frustrating.

JG - I bought one of those last time you mentioned it - seems too tight to go all night and it didn't seem to be helping, also tried the stretching sock, inserts, just about everything.

Went to a highly rated podiatrist yesterday - he gave me a stretch to perform every morning before getting out of bed, got fitted for custom orthotics, and he prescribed 3 steroid injections in the heal. I got the first shot yesterday, and I will get the next 2 spread 2 weeks apart. He said he has something like a 98% success rate with this treatment, and told me I should start running again. So we will see how this goes.

I like this guy already...this is great news. I need you in sub-18 shape in 2-3 months.
